Porchlight is leading the effort to rebuild the housing stock that has been deteriorating in this historic neighborhood over many decades. The goal is to build new and restore existing homes that return life, vibrancy, and investment to the neighborhood. Each house must enhance the existing neighborhood, be built with quality materials, and be energy efficient.  Since 2016 Porchlight has invested over $2 million in the Historic Oakleigh Neighborhood.  The investment includes the purchase of blighted vacant houses and lots as well as new construction and renovations.  Porchlight’s investment has been a catalyst for other investment in the neighborhood.  It is estimated that over $5 million has been invested by other homeowners and investors in the 16 block focus area. Recently Porchlight has teamed with Alabama Power Company as a Smart Neighborhood Builder.  In addition to all of our future homes being Gold Fortified (www.fortifiedhome.org) , homes will be built to Smart Neighborhood requirements.  Smart Neighborhood homes are more energy efficient and offer smart technology for the use and protection of your home. Porchlight presently has 25 lots in Oakleigh that are ready for a new Fortified, Smart Neighborhood Home.  We have multiple home plans to choose from.  We would love for you to let us build your new Porchlight home.
